Eric Church's Emotional Opry Performance

Posted by Carrie Feir on 2017/10/11

Wednesday night was an emotional one for Eric Church at the Grand Ole Opry.  He shared a new song, "Why Not Me", that he wrote in honor of Sonny Melton, who died Sunday while shielding his wife from the gunfire.  The couple had travelled from Tennessee to Las Vegas to see Eric perform on Friday night at the Route 91 Harvest Festival and they had tickets for his Opry performance on Wednesday.  Fighting back tears onstage, Eric said that didn't want to perform that night. "I didn't want to play guitar and I didn't want to walk on that stage. That's their seats and I'll tell you something, the reason I'm here tonight is because of Heather, Sonny who died and every person that was there. I saw that crowd, and I saw them with their hands in the air, and I saw them with boots in the air and what I saw that moment in time was frozen and there's no amount of bullets that can take that away."
