SCLERODERMA’S JUNE AWARENESS IS GOING VIRTUAL
Every year, thousands of supporters come together across Canada participate in our Walk, Run or Ride for Scleroderma events to raise funds and increase awareness for this rare disease. This year, as we continue physical distancing in order to slow the spread of COVID-19, our Walk or Run in the Park for Scleroderma is going VIRTUAL!
In 2019, we raised more than $150,000 across Canada for June Awareness and this year, we will need your virtual commitment more than ever. Please visit www.sclerodermawalkrun.ca to register and participate today!
In support of our efforts, The Scleroderma Society of Ontario’s Executive Director, John Malcolmson has committed to walking 500 miles (804kms) to raise much needed funds and awareness. Follow John’s progress on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and share your June Awareness “walk” with us using #scwalks2020.
Scleroderma affects approximately 1 in 2500 people in Canada; men, women, and children. Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. The disease, which literally means “hard skin,” can cause thickening and tightening of the skin, as well as serious damage to internal organs. Scleroderma occurs 3 to 4 times more often in women than men.
