Strike Out Diabetes: Bowl-a-thon
Join Diabetes Canada for a fun day on the lanes!!
On behalf of the Strike Out Diabetes Event Committee, I would like to ask you to join us in our fight against diabetes. Currently over 11 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes with about 300,000 people living with type 1 diabetes, the most serious form of this chronic disease. Type 1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes, is an autoimmune disease typically diagnosed in children and youth and leaves them with a life-long challenge – being insulin-dependent. This means children must take insulin daily, either by injections or using insulin pumps – without which, type 1 diabetes is fatal. Since there is no known way to prevent or cure type 1 diabetes, disease management is critical for the rest of a child’s life. But, proper management is a challenging learning process – particularly considering the young age at which diagnosis typically occurs – and there is never a “day off”.
