"Emotions got the best of me and I was out of line in the things I said. Country music is making history on Billboard's 2023 Songs of the Summer chart. Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs have the number one and number two songs of the summer. Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" sits at number one, followed by Luke Combs' "Fast Car." This is first time since the chart's inception in 1958 that country songs have claimed the top two spots. John Denver's "Annie's Song" was the last country track to hit number one in 1974. The songs are judged on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming, airplay and sales based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labour Day. "Last Night" claims the title after leading the weekly chart all 14 weeks this season.
Jimmy Buffett passed away September 1st at the age of 76. TMZ is reporting that he died from skin cancer that turned to lymphoma. According to the source, he was diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago. Jimmy's website broke the news of his death to his fans. "Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs," the message read. "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many." He began his career as a country artist in Nashville in the 1960s, but added folk and rock to the mix by the release of his debut album, 1970's Down to Earth. Jimmy worked as a reporter for Billboard while struggling to make it in the music industry. His sixth album in 1977, Changes in Attitude, featured his breakthrough hit "Margaritaville." That song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2023. It is considered to be the "most lucrative song ever written" due to all the merchandise it spawned. Over his career, Jimmy released 31 studio albums, nine compilation albums, 14 live albums, eight specialty albums and 67 singles. He sold over 20 million albums worldwide. Jimmy was also an author and had three number-one best sellers: Tales From Margaritaville, Where is Joe Merchant?, and his biography, A Pirate Looks at Fifty. He is survived by his second wife, Jane Slagsvol, and their three children
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo returned to Las Vegas to renew their wedding vows, seven years after they initially tied the knot. They went to the exact same chapel, but Jelly Roll says things looked different this time. "7 years ago we stumbled into this little chapel in Vegas back out drunk," he wrote in a social media video that showed the special occasion. "My only regret was never seeing her in a dress." This time Bunnie walked down the aisle in a form-fitting, off-the-shoulder lace gown. Jelly Roll was wearing a red satin tuxedo. The couple shared lots of kisses as they renewed their vows and posed for pictures. They first met in 2015 and were married the following year.
The Canadian Country Music Association has revealed the final list of performers for the 2023 CCMA Awards. High Valley, Brett Kissel, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Sacha, Tyler Joe Miller, Matt Lang, Tyler Shaw, Dalton Dover and Drake Milligan have all been added to the September 16 show. They join previously announced performers Dean Brody, Jade Eagleson, Sam Hunt, James Barker Band, The Reklaws, Josh Ross, Dallas Smith, Tenille Townes and Train. The 2023 CCMA Awards show airs live at 8pm on CTV.
